THERE MUST BE HEART EXERCISE AND CONCERN
FOR THE LORD'S WORK AND PEOPLE.
"If the Lord be with us, why then is all this befallen us?" (13).
(2)
THERE MUST BE THE ASSURANCE OF THE LORD'S
PRESENCE.
"The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valour" (12).
(3)
THE LORD'S COMMAND AND ENABLING MUST EQUIP.
"Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel . . . . . have not I sent
thee?" (14).

THERE MUST BE NO CONFIDENCE IN THE FLESH.
"My family is poor . . . . . I am the least" (15).

ALL SERVICE PRESUPPOSES GRACE.
"If now I have found grace in Thy sight" (17).

SERVICE IS ONLY POSSIBLE BY VIRTUE OF CHRIST.
"Then Gideon built an altar . . . . . and called it Jehovah-Shalom" (19-24).
