We now draw attention to some characteristic words and phrases:
`STREET' (shuq). - This word used in this way is peculiar to the books of Solomon, being found elsewhere only in
Proverbs 7:8; Song of Solomon 3:2 and Ecclesiastes 12:4,5.
`DELIGHT' (taanug). - Translated `delight' in Proverbs 19:10, Song of Solomon 7:6 and Ecclesiastes 2:8.
Elsewhere twice in Micah.
`PRE-EMINENCE' (mothar). - Ecclesiastes 3:19 `PRE-EMINENCE'; Proverbs 14:23 `PROFIT'; Proverbs 21:5
`PLENTEOUSNESS'.
`FOOL' (kesil). - The Hebrew word occurs 70 times; 49 times in Proverbs, 28 times in Ecclesiastes, the remaining
three passages being in the Psalms. Grotius would set aside Solomon with three Aramaic words - here, Solomon is
established by a greater and more searching criticism.
There are several expressions concerning wisdom and wealth which are peculiar to the writings or times of
Solomon, e.g.:
